A Successful Focus on First-Time Buyers
D.R. Horton Inc. announced a second quarter profit Friday and credited its push to sell homes to first-time buyers for the success.

D.R. Horton President and CEO Donald Tomnitz said, β€œIt was our decision three years ago to appeal to the first-time home buyers, and we reworked our product line and reworked our product, both size and finish-out, just simply because of the fact that we believed that people who had existing homes -- second-time, third-time home buyers -- were going to have a difficult time selling their existing home to buy a first home.’

Tomnitz said the percentage of Horton customers who were first-time home buyers in the second quarter actually dropped.
